A Refined Approach to Revelry: Hosting Events at Stockton Inn

Maybe it’s marriage, maybe it’s a dinner party. Whether life has presented you with a major milestone to celebrate or you’re just looking for an excuse to throw on your finery and host beyond your own dining room, Stockton Inn provides an unforgettable atmosphere. Fabulous parties happen to be a part of our centuries-long history here at the inn, from a Prohibition-era speakeasy to jazz musicians lingering after hours at the tavern to our more refined approach to revelry today.

Each special occasion and the person behind it is distinct – much like the architecture, design, and stories that distinguish this iconic landmark’s own setting. To provide a sense of how we approach events here at the inn, Curated is highlighting the planning process to bring your vision to fruition.

Select the space that suits you

Schedule a tour and get a sense of the spaces that weave throughout our historic, design-forward inn. Depending on the scope of your event and the aesthetic you seek, this 300-year-old estate has an inspiring space around every corner.

The Terrace

The Terrace is a three-tier outdoor oasis that adapts beautifully to the changing seasons. From spring through fall, this expansive garden setting accommodates up to 100 seated guests or 120 for a lively cocktail reception, all framed by lush greenery and the tranquil sounds of our stone waterfall. During the winter months, the space is transformed into a cozy, heated retreat that can host 70 seated or 80 cocktail guests, providing a unique year-round venue for weddings, rehearsal dinners, bridal showers, and corporate holiday parties.

Private Dining Room

As quiet and intimate as you need it to be, our Private Dining Room is a sanctuary of historic refinement. This secluded space comfortably accommodates between 8 and 14 seated guests, making it the ideal choice for family celebrations, high-level board meetings, or an evening of fine dining and conversation with close friends.

The Alcove

Draw the gold velvet curtain to the tavern and sink into ample booth seating for private events in the alcove. Set between the bar and the private dining room, this space feels exclusive while still being part of the buzzy tavern setting. Ideal for groups of up to 20 who want to enjoy dinner, drinks, and each other’s company at three spacious and comfortable tables surrounded by hand-painted wallpaper.

Bathed in natural light and featuring a sophisticated, airy aesthetic, our Dining Room offers an elegant backdrop for mid-sized gatherings. With a capacity for 50 seated guests or a cocktail reception of 60, this room is perfectly suited for graceful bridal showers, intimate wedding receptions, or upscale weekend brunches. Its timeless design and refined atmosphere ensure that every event feels prestigious and welcoming.

A full property buyout offers an unparalleled level of exclusivity, transforming the entire Stockton Inn into your own private estate for the duration of your stay. This option is ideal for those who desire a completely bespoke experience, ensuring that no other guests are on the premises while you host your destination wedding weekend or executive retreat. A buyout grants access to all nine luxury accommodations, including guest rooms in the main inn and two carriage houses – including our premier suite with a butler’s kitchen, living area, and private terrace with a bocce ball court and fire pit. Beyond their guest rooms, your guests will have unrestricted use of the three-tier terrace, dining room, private dining room, the entire historic tavern, bar, and alcove, as well as the private guest lounge and its signature honor bar.

Once you’ve booked the date and have an idea of your guest count, it’s time to go over the menu and beverage experience. Our renowned hospitality team is helmed by Executive Chef Bob Truitt, Managing Director Anthony Rudolf, and Head Bartender Brian Miller, whose blended experience spans Michelin-starred and James Beard Award-winning institutions like Thomas Keller’s Per Se, Michael White’s Marea, and The Polynesian. Together with our incredible staff, we distinguish each event at the inn as an unforgettable culinary experience. With three- and four-course menus served family-style or plated, plus a range of beverage packages and pairings, the fare at every event – from pastas made fresh and hand-rolled in house to locally sourced produce and delicate confections to conclude the meal – is of the highest caliber.

Divulge the details

Our events coordinator understands that the perfect gathering is a tailored experience, and often it’s the small things – the overlooked details – that distinguish an event. What music do you like? What’s your vision for the decor? Is there a special gift or memory that will be shared? Our events coordinator wants to know the little things that are important to you. This ensures our team anticipates the needs of you, your guests, and your event.

Leisure and let us host you

You’ve provided the information and preferences, and now comes the best part. Unplug from planning as we work to perfect the moments leading up to and during your event. There’s something that happens at events here at the inn. Maybe it’s the history, maybe it’s the hardworking team, maybe it’s just the people who give us the opportunity to partake in a meaningful day in their personal story. But after the glasses have clinked together, the food devoured, and the chairs shifted slightly from riveting conversation, we’ll hear guests the utter adjectives like “perfect” or “magical.” It’s then that we know the party’s over, and that we’ve done our job.

Through the Centuries: A History of Stockton Inn

Through the centuries, Stockton Inn has remained a symbol of the Delaware River Valley’s significance in American history and a mainstay of the community’s evolution in arts, culture, and culinary excellence.

The Q&A: Chef Bob Truitt

Despite his hard-earned pedigree, Chef Bob Truitt is humble. He evokes pride far sooner when asked a question about his sons’ choir or soccer game than when praised for an outstanding dish. His respect for his team is apparent in all he does, and it’s not uncommon to find Chef on the line sharing in various prepwork. Afterall, “team work makes the dream work,” he said while malletting hundreds of tuna filets into delicate carpaccio rounds for a special tasting menu. To get to know more about the man behind the chef’s coat, we sat down on a Tuesday morning over coffee when the inn’s first guests of the day had yet to check in and the restaurant was quiet.
